The University of the South Pacific (USP)’s Malampa Sub-Centre has hosted the first ever Pacific Technical and Further Education (PacTAFE)’s cohort in Certificate III in Early Childhood and Care outside of Port Vila.
The Language Course is a prerequisite for entry into the Early Childhood program proper. It is a five-course programme.
A total of 68 teachers attended the three-week course, 34 of whom were Francophone Kindy teachers. All participants came from North, Central and Southeast of Malekula.
The Secretary General of MALAMPA Province, Kalwajin Skepha officially opened the three-week programme.
He acknowledged that human resource development was one of the priorities of the Province.
“I will make every effort to work closely with the University of the South Pacific and other training providers to build human capacity in the province,” he said.
USP PacTAFE Coordinator Brownly Suvwa confirms that his office is committed to going out into the rural areas to help upskill citizens who are hardworking field-based Kindy teachers, as there is a need to acknowledge and better equip those that contribute to the human resource of this country.
“PacTAFE will continue to organize more cohorts in November and December this year in Tanna, North Pentecost, South west Bay on Malekula and Craig Cove on Ambrym,” he said.
The Early Childhood and Care program offers certificates from Certificate III, Certificate IV and Diploma (Level 5), qualifications that are accredited internationally.
