Defendant in airport heist granted bail

A man who was arrested and charged in connection with the K1.2m airport heist early last month has been granted bail by the National Court.

35-year-old Jeremiah Kundi was allowed K1000 bail today after he was remanded at Bomana.

He was arrested on information or allegations made by an accomplice involved in the airport robbery of Nov 3, where K1.2m was stolen from Tropic Air.

He was charged with robbery on allegations he aided two other accomplice by providing them with a pistol used in the robbery.

The presiding judge, Justice Panuel Mogish, in his ruling on Kundi's bail application said he is reluctant to keep a man in custody on allegations (not evidence) which were given primarily from an accomplice.

"I would exercise my discretion and grant bail," he said when allowing bail at the Bomana National Court sitting.

Kundi is not allowed to travel out of NCD without the approval of the court and must report to the National Court registry every Monday.

His two guarantors must pledge K1000 each to ensure he abides by his bail conditions.

He is expected to return to the committal court for mention in January 2017.
