Furious Cronulla prop Andrew Fifita is considering walking away from the NRL over his Kangaroos snub, according to reports.
Fifita was a glaring omission from Mal Meninga’s 24-man Four Nations squad announced on Tuesday ahead of the Four Nations against England, New Zealand and Scotland.
ARL Chairman John Grant confirmed the decision was part of a new stance which will see players overlooked for representative honours for bad behaviour.
''There is not a contract to play with the Kangaroos, it's a privelege and honour,” Grant said earlier this week.
The Sharks giant was widely condemned for his recent support of one-punch killer Kieran Loveridge and was also fined and suspended for six games in 2015 for abusing a junior rugby league official.
His non-selection two days after he scored the winning try in Cronulla’s historic victory over Melbourne has left Fifita to questioning his playing future in Australia.
Fairfax Media is reporting the 27-year-old has had discussions with manager Ben Johnston about walking away from the NRL, despite having two years to run on his contract with the Sharks.
Meanwhile, high-profile Kangaroos including four-time Dally M Medal winner Johnathan Thurston have publicly backed the ARL’s new selection policy.
"If the game feels as though that's the best decision to make, then as a senior player I fully appreciate what the game is doing and stand up for that,” Thurston said.
