Harry Potter play music 'isn't ready for album release'

Singer Imogen Heap says she hasn't "got round" to turning the music she composed for the Harry Potter play into an album yet.

Her music is the background soundtrack for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, a play which looks at what life is like for Harry and his friends 19 years after the last book.

But Imogen says even though people want a record, she's not made one yet.

She was speaking at the official opening in London's West End.

"I think they want it to happen," she said.

"It's not like a musical, it's more like a film score. So it doesn't really have a Harry Potter moment."

She added: "It's much more like a softer tone but there are big moments where there's movement and music."

Having been in the music industry for nearly 20 years, Imogen says she's excited that a new audience will be introduced to her work.

"I can't wait for people to hear it, but a lot of the songs you will definitely not recognise from original songs. But they are in there, woven in like a tapestry.

"Sometimes they have bright colours and you recognise them, sometimes they're there just part of the weave and you would never know."

She also said that some of the music had already been written, mixed and composed over the term of her career but she's re-crafted them for the play.

"A lot of the music is existing music which I've worked with a guy called Martin Lowe, who's the music supervisor, crafting it into this world. It feels like a meeting of two worlds. I feel very lucky."

Imogen said that the project had been a "challenge" as she had never done anything like it.

"There have been rows and rows of computers and mixing desks and loads and loads of people with all their amazing gear just bringing this magic to life.

"And it really is magic, and I hope you get to see it."
