Newcrest proud of their employees

Employees of Newcrest at Lihir, New Ireland Province, have been commended for their contribution in transforming the Lihir Gold Mine into a world-class operation.

The comments were made by current Lihir General Manager, Craig Jetson, who is now promoted to Executive General Manager of Lihir and Cadia, Newcrest’s other operation in Australia.

“There should be a great sense of accomplishment in the work done to date by our Lihir team and justified excitement about what the future holds. I look forward to continuing to work with our workforce, local communities and the government to take Lihir from strength to strength,” said Jetson.

Newcrest announced in a media release the appointment of Jetson, saying the change was designed to consolidate the leadership of the company’s operational assets under two executive general managers, and increase the capacity of the other executive general managers accountable for leading Newcrest’s medium to long-term growth prospects.

Newcrest’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Sandeep Biswas, said Jetson had driven significant improvements in the safe operational performance of Lihir and forged effective working relationships with local communities and governments.

“Newcrest is committed to building on this substantial progress at Lihir and Craig Jetson will continue to be closely involved in the management of Lihir in his new executive role,” said Biswas.

Newcrest also announced Craig Jones, currently Executive General Manager Cadia & MMJV, as the new Executive General Manager, Wafi-Golpu.

“Craig Jones was instrumental in the delivery of the $US2 billion Cadia East underground block cave mine, and his expertise in delivering major projects will be key to the success of Wafi-Golpu,” said Biswas.

The other executive change is Phil Stephenson who assumes accountability for the Bonikro operation in West Africa. He is currently Executive General Manager Gosowong and Telfer.

This change is intended to give Newcrest’s Chief Development Officer, Michael Nossal, more capacity to focus on global exploration program and a growing portfolio of strategic partnerships, farm-in arrangements and investments across Asia Pacific, West Africa and the Americas.

These executive changes will take effect from January1, 2017.
