PMO says ministers were appointed before dissolution

Two caretaker ministers, Public Utilities Minister, Don Ken and Foreign Affairs Minister, Havo Moli, were appointed by Prime Minister, Sato Kilman, before the President dissolved Parliament.

The Prime Minister’s Office said, “Minister Samsen and Minister Moli were appointed several hours before the President dissolved Parliament otherwise the State Law office would not officiate the swearing in of the Ministers.”

A statement was issued after the former Opposition group questioned the legality of appointment of the new ministers.

According to the Official Gazette, Ken was appointed as minister on 22 October and he also took his oath the same day.

According to a statement from the PMO, Moli was appointed as minister on 24 November and he reportedly took his oath on 3 December.

Meanwhile, a reminder has been made through the Office of Prime Minister, via Public Relations Officer, Ricky Binihi, for the media to make fair and accurate reporting as provided under the Media Code of Ethics.

“The Prime Minister’s Office expects journalists to operate with impartiality which means they should not be prejudiced towards the former Opposition or the current caretaker Government.”
