Selena Gomez received chemotherapy for her lupus diagnosis

Selena Gomez has found her voice, and she's finally setting the record straight.

Time away from the spotlight is usually a good thing, but in a new interview withBillboard, Gomez shared some surprising news with the public. The 23-year-old singer and actress disclosed that she received chemotherapy after her Lupus diagnosis. There was much speculation about Gomez's unexplained hiatus and whether she was battling addiction. Despite all the rumors, the young starlet chose to keep her illness a secret until she was ready to talk about it.

"I was diagnosed with lupus, and I've been through chemotherapy," Gomez divulged. "That's what my break was really about. I could've had a stroke." Although her time away from the spotlight was much needed for health reasons, it wasn't easy for Gomez to deal with the public's scrutiny. "I wanted so badly to say, 'You guys have no idea. I'm in chemotherapy. You're a––holes.' I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.”

Things are finally looking up for Gomez now. Her highly anticipated new albumRevival will be released on October 9th, and the young star explained how she turned her haters into a source of inspiration. "I'm so f–––ing nice to everybody, and everyone is so vile to me. I've been working since I was 7. I've been a UNICEF ambassador since I was 17," said Gomez. "It's so disappointing that I've become a tabloid story. That hate motivated me."

Last week, she posted an announcement about her forthcoming tour on Instagram. Gomez also released the music video for “Same Old Love” yesterday.
