ShefNA rolls out its events for 2016

Shefa Netball Association (ShefNA) in its last Executive meeting approved its 2016 events.

Here is a summary of the line-up of dates and events. Interested new clubs are welcomed to register in 2016. The International Netball Federation (INF) has announced the new international netball rule changes which come into effect on January 1, and are hereby noted here as well.

The first and foremost is February 6. This date has been earmarked for ShefNA’s Annual General Meeting — Venue will be at Vasanoc starting promptly at 9am. One of the important agendas at the AGM includes the call of elections for a new executive to run the next term of ShefNA’s affairs and developments. There are 7 positions to be filled. Club leaders present are expected to present club Reports as well describing each development–either written or power point format. Meanwhile Clubs have been advised to carefully nominate members who are willing to commit themselves, have passion in netball, and assists in the Development of Shefa Netball to maintain the current active status of the association.

Saturday, February 20, a Leadership Course for clubs takes place. During the one-day course a session includes the Registration of teams for 2016 from clubs and new interested clubs. Club leaders must attend with forms, fees, and photos. Registration forms have been emailed to all leaders. Fees are Vt2,000 adults, Vt1,000 students and Vt4,500 for team registration. Light fees for the year will be Vt10,000. Other fees for our NCD‘s Mixed tournament will be Vt5,000 for those teams wishing to take part in the Mixed tournament may wish to pay early. ShefNA game days are Tuesday evenings.

A reminder to Clubs that a Prize of Vt10,000 will be presented to the first team or Club that provides (1) complete names of players in the registration forms, (2) pay their fees upfront, and including photos of each player, and (3) Upon careful satisfaction of correct, relevant and required information by February 20 by the executive of ShefNA.

One of the decisions agreed upon during the 2014 AGM was all clubs registered in Shefa Netball must provide a Junior Team. Clubs are advised to provide a list of their junior teams program that will be coordinated by Jennifer Attison in 2016.

It is anticipated that the proposed Shefa Netball Constitution will come into force in April 2016. Preparations are in process, one being the circulation of its draft in early January for comments from all clubs.

March 1 announces ShefNA’s game competition season commencing with an Opening Tournament and, and the grading of new teams. The netball season then leads to the start of the 2016 Championship on March 15.

March 19, March 26, and April 2 are Umpire Classes in both the Beginners and Refresher categories. Women and including men interested to learn as beginners, and those that may have been umpiring but have not conducted any tests or just those that want to come and refresh their minds on the rules. The current National Umpires Coordinator (NUC) Mrs Eileen Nganga is to work with the new NUC and spend time looking through the new netball rule changes which come into effect in January 2016. Time and venue are yet to be advised.

Monday, May 16 is a public holiday in Vanuatu and has been set aside for the Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) Mix Tournament. The current executive approved the competition to a day and earlier to encourage more interest in ShefNA clubs and teams as motivation seem to lapse after the Championship Season as gathered from past experiences.

April 10, and April 16 have been booked for Bench Officials Training. However dates may change according to availability of trainer.

The month of July sees the marking of the celebration of the Independence Anniversary tournament and hence, the “Daonem Malaria Program” is suitable during this period. This is when ShefNA advocates against malaria and dengue campaign.

August 2016 is the expected date of the National Games on Santo, however this totally depends on the funding from the Government.

October or November is the Grand Finals of the Port Vila Netball versus ShefNA Netball Challenge. The two member associations have agreed that top Championship champions in A and B grades challenge to find the best of the best. This was the first time the two associations agreed in 2015.
