TVET joins disability day in Motalava

People on the island of Motalava in Torba Province also recognized the importance of commemorating the International Day of People with Disability.

Staff of the Torba TVET Centre at Sola on Vanualava showed support by joining the Provincial Disability Committee including the Disability Desk Officers under the Ministry of Justice in a parade to Telhei School where the event was held.

Speeches centred on promoting inclusion and the rights of people with disabilities.

Other highlights included custom performances and educational inclusive activities.

By increasing access to training opportunities, TVET is actively supporting efforts to create a world where people with disability are included and be able to contribute to the decision makings of the society or their communities, said the TVET Program Team Leader, Fremden Yanhambath.

Yanhambath said since 2012, the participation of people with disability in the TVET skills development programs has been very significant.

This year’s theme, “Inclusion matters: access and empowerment for people of all abilities” is at the heart of the work that the Australian Government funded TVET Program is doing for people with disabilities in Vanuatu.

That is engaging them in skills development services and ensuring they are supported in in-come generation activities.

TVET Centres are established in the provinces of Sanma, Malampa, Torba and Tafea.

The International Day of People with Disability is a United Nations endorsed day celebrated globally on December 3 every year.
