Vanuatu cricketers confident of playoff spot

Vanuatu is looking to seal a playoff berth in their final World Cricket League group match against Tanzania tonight and move closer to retaining their spot in Division Five.

RNZI reports the Melanesians thrashed Nigeria by 110 runs in midweek to snap a three-game losing streak.

Vanuatu were a late replacement for Suriname in the Division Five event and need a top three finish to avoid being relegated back to regional competitions.

A win tonight would put them a game away from achieving that goal and the President of Vanuatu Cricket, Mark Stafford, said they expect to do the business.

"We're confident that we can take care of Tanzania. They haven't shown any great deal of endeavour so far in the tournament. We're fully confident we're a better team than them and that will lead us to probably a return match with Guernsey, who we had a very close match in a rain-shortened and Duckworth-Lewis outcome on the first day of the tournament."

Mark Stafford said one area Vanuatu want to improve on is building partnerships throughout their innings and not letting wickets fall in quick succession.
