Vanuatu leader to visit NZ next month

The New Zealand Government says Vanuatu's Prime Minister Charlot Salwai will visit New Zealand in two weeks.

RNZ reports Mr Salwai is to attend events in Auckland, Wellington and Tauranga on what is his first visit to New Zealand as prime minister.

New Zealand Prime Minister John Key said both countries had a warm relationship and the visit was a useful opportunity to discuss bilateral and regional issues of shared interest, such as the Pacific Islands Forum.

While in Tauranga Mr Salwai plans to meet with seasonal workers from Vanuatu here under the RSE scheme.

Vanuatu contributes a large proportion of the approximately 9,000 RSE workers in New Zealand.
