Wallabies have no betting syndicate fears after All Blacks hotel room bugged

Wallabies coach Michael Cheika says he is not concerned his team might be the target of betting syndicates.

NSW Police are continuing investigations after a listening bug was found in the All Blacks team meeting room in Double Bay in Sydney last week.

The Rose Bay Local Area Command have confirmed gambling links will form part of their investigations.

"Gambling is a terrible thing if you ask me," Cheika said.

"I don't even consider that type of stuff, I don't even know why anyone would be even interested to do something like that.

"I don't understand what sort of gain you'd get from it anyway because the result is so contested, it's a bit stupid really.

"Now police are occupied doing something like that when they should be catching real criminals."

Police are also looking at where the device was purchased and if the New Zealand side was the intended target of the bug or if it was there for another reason.

The All Blacks say they routinely sweep hotel rooms as part of their security measures.

But Cheika says he will not be going to those lengths.

"It's not something we're going to worry about. If people were to do that stuff it's their problem. I've got to deal with making sure the team plays good footy, that's definitely not on my priority list," he said.

In a statement, InterContinental Sydney Double Bay's general manager Paul Walters said it was assisting police in their investigations.
