Michelle Obama's mum reminds her she's not a 'real celebrity'

It doesn't matter how famous, successful or presidential you are - mothers will always find a way to humble you, as Michelle Obama was reminded on Sunday.

During her Becoming tour stop in Phoenix on Tuesday, the former first lady shared a text conversation with her mum about her surprise appearance at Sunday's Grammy Awards, which she opened with a speech about the power of music.

And although the music industry treated her like a rock star, Marian Robinson wasn't so impressed.

Turns out, Obama's famously low-key mum almost forgot she was on the show at all and was more interested in hearing about whether she met any "real stars".

"I guess you were a hit at the Grammys," Robinson wrote in a text to Obama. "Did you meet any of the real stars or did you run right after you were done?"

The first lady wrote back, "I told you I was going to be on it."

Obama later posted the screengrabs to Instagram and noted that she'd shared the texts with her Phoenix audience.

"When your mom doesn't think you're a "real" celebrity," the former first lady captioned the post.
