White House security officials visit Pacific

Two White House security officials from the US visited the Pacific last week.

The senior director for Asian affairs on the White House National Security Council, Matt Pottinger, visited Vanuatu and Solomon Islands for meetings with governments.

The ABC reported that Mr Pottinger also visited Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

He was joined on his Pacific trip by the council's new US director for Oceania & Indo-Pacific Security, Alexander Gray.

The Council advises the US president on defence and foreign affairs.
