Blyde, Tui up for top award

Dynamic New Zealand duo Michaela Blyde and Ruby Tui have been rewarded for their stellar play this season with nominations for the World Rugby Women's Sevens Player of the Year award.

Blyde, of Taranaki, was the top try-scorer at the end of the six-tournament series, crossing the stripe 40 times, while Cantabrian Tui was a force in the forwards.

The world championship-winning pair were nominated alongside Canada's Ghislaine Landry for the award.

In the men's category, American Perry Baker shapes up as the favourite for the award, leading the men's circuit in both tries and points scored.

The oldest nominee at 31, Baker score 57 tries and 285 total points during the season, and will be hoping to fend off South African speedster Rosko Specman and Fijian Jerry Tuwai for the award.

The awards will be presented at the World Rugby awards in Monte Carlo in late November.
