Injured Broncos recruit cleared to play

Brisbane NRL recruit David Mead is expected to be available for the Auckland Nines or the Broncos' first trial match despite injuring his knee at training.

The winger's scans came back clear after he was forced off the field on Monday following a knee clash with a teammate, the club announced on Thursday.

"He may have to be kept out of a session or two, but we expect he will be right to play in the trials," high performance manager Jeremy Hickmans said.

"Fortunately, the hard work he has done in the pre-season means missing a session or two will not impact him physically."

The 28-year-old, who was left out of Wednesday's training because of swelling, joined the Broncos late last year from Gold Coast.

Brisbane will name teams next week for their February 4 trial against Cronulla and the Nines tournament over the same weekend.
