NZF president Shaw resigns

New Zealand Football (NZF) Deryck Shaw president has resigned in the wake of a damning review into the governance and culture of the national body.

Confirmed in a statement from NZF on Friday, the announcment comes after Shaw initially said he would not voluntarily step down when the review was made public last week.

But with the pressure mounting and calls ringing out for him to fall on his sword, Shaw has agreed to do so.

NZF vice-president Philip Barry has been appointed interim president until the organisation's next Congress in 2019.

Shaw was elected to the executive committee at the end of 2014 and as president of the governing body in June, 2015.

He felt the time was right to step down as the executive committee looks to implement the recommendations of the review.

"I have decided that it is appropriate at this time that I resign from my role as President, to allow football to move forward," Shaw said.

"This is my decision as the head of the organisation and it is the right thing to do."

NZF also confirmed the resignation of executive committe member Jon Ormond.
