Successful Games to derive from volunteers’ input

Vanuatu is prepared to deliver the best ever Games in the region, and to provide a pathway for a national pride for the whole country, say the Van2017 team.

Having volunteers being part of the workforce is vital for the delivery of services during the Games.

This week, Van2017 Volunteer Team has begun its Team Leaders Orientation program with its 70 chosen Team Leaders, who will be working ‘hands on’ to direct and motivate their volunteers.

Van2017 CEO Clint Flood says the Volunteer Team Leader is an integral part in the success of a team project, and his or her role is to help streamline communication and provide structure and direction in fulfilling expectations for volunteers.

“As team leaders, you will be the face of the Games, you will make Vanuatu a nation to be remembered, you will be Vanuatu Ambassadors, and your role is critical during the Games,” he said in his opening remarks this morning.

“You were selected upon your skills, experiences as a leader, as smart thinker, and because of your good organization skills.”

Mr Flood stressed that being a Team Leader is a big responsibility that requires commitment, where they will be heading groups of volunteers who will be representing 2017 Pacific Mini Games.

“Today it is the start of your journey towards the Pacific Mini Games, and we will work hand in hand, as a proud team, to deliver the most successful Pacific Mini Games ever organized.”

Team Leaders will liaise with the Van2017 coordinating team in each sector to coordinate a group of volunteers in their respective service areas and fields of play.

They will be placed in various functional areas to oversee, day to day, the management of services to be provided during the Games.
