Vanuatu Basketball Fed hosts first 3x3 tournament

Vanuatu Basketball Federation (VBF) held its first 3x3 tournament at the refurbished Nambatu Lagoon community basketball court in Port, Vila over the weekend.

Former national team player and Chairman of No. 2 Lagoon’s St Joseph Catholic Parish, Richard Titi initiated the project to help introduce the fastest-growing urban sport in the world.

“We’re excited this plan is eventuating. It’s a kick-start for us. We’re delighted also that Bank of South Pacific has positively responded to our request to support the sponsorship of cash prizes,” Titi told dailypost.vu.

“It is going to be the first time for us to host this popular 3x3 event from a rural-based perspective within the community and we are pretty sure it will be successful,” he added.

VBF National Basketball Development Officer, Sacha Duthu commended the initiative of Titi and the Lagoon Community and extended their assistance in basketball-related activities.

“We are very happy with the refurbishing the court in Nambatu Lagoon because we don’t have a lot of courts here in Port Vila so it’s a very welcome sight for us and more opportunities for players to play,” said Duthu.

“It was a fun experience organizing the 3x3 tournament and we hope we can continue to build on that start and continue the development of 3x3 basketball here in Vanuatu,” he added.

The basketball court is located at the Saint Joseph School in Port Vila.
