Vanuatu captain hopes new NZ competition will open the way for more islanders

After missing out on finals altogether last year because of the pandemic, Kaltak was hoping for a winner's medal with Auckland City, but arch-rivals Team Wellington got the better of them with a 4-2 victory.

The match was historic for more reasons than one, as it was the last final under New Zealand's old system, with Auckland now part of a new and bigger domestic competition which has already kicked off.

Kaltak is hoping the new set-up will open the way for more players from the Pacific Islands to join him in New Zealand, and that his own example will inspire others.

SkyCity to launch Malta-based ‘skycitycasino’ online gambling site in mid-2019

RNZI reports most of the goal-mouth action took place in the day's opening game, Auckland keeping their hopes of a sixth consecutive title alive with a 4-2 victory over Tahitian side AS Tefana.

The second match was a far tenser affair, New Caledonia's AS Magenta shading the possession but struggling to get their noses in front before Wellington secured the win with a couple of quick-fire late goals to win 2-0.

A draw would have seen them set up a repeat of tonight’s match against Amicale however the Vanuatu club’s campaign is over with the defeat as they miss out on the best runners-up spot on goal difference.

Elsewhere, the Solomon Warriors have finished their campaign on a high following a nine-goal thriller to defeat Papua New Guinean debutants Lae City Dwellers 5-4.
