Beyoncé releases surprise new song, Black Parade, on Juneteenth

The track includes powerful lyrics about black history, police brutality and the George Floyd protests.

"Put your fists up in the air, show black love," sings the star. "Need peace and reparation for my people."

The song was released on Juneteenth, a holiday marking the official end of slavery in the US.

The celebration originated in Beyoncé's home state of Texas but is now celebrated annually on 19 June throughout the US, with varying degrees of official recognition, sometimes under the names Emancipation Day or Black Independence Day.

The seven-year-old entered the chart at the No. 76 spot for her writing and composing work on the song “Brown Skin Girl” from The Lion King: The Gift soundtrack, Billboard reports.

As Billboard notes, Blue Ivy is following in the impressive steps of both her parents.

Beyoncé has made an appearance as a soloist on the Billboard Hot 100 63 times, the fourth-most of any woman, Billboard reports, plus 14 in collaboration with Destiny’s Child and five more appearances alongside hubby, Jay-Z.

Danish university offers Beyonce course

According to television station TV2, around 75 students have signed up.

There's reportedly so much interest in the University of Copenhagen course - called Beyonce, Gender and Race - that it's had to move to a bigger lecture theatre.

Professor Erik Steinskog told the Danish broadcaster that he'd be presenting the singer's lyrics, videos and performances to students.

Beyonce offers aid to Houston flood victims

"I remain in constant prayer for those affected and for the rescuers who have been so brave and determined to do so much to help," the star said.

She added that she was working with her charity and her pastor "to implement a plan to help".

Houston has been hit by unprecedented levels of rain, with more set to come.

Officials estimate that more than 30,000 residents need shelter. At least nine have died in the Houston area.

Other stars including Kim Kardashian West and Kevin Hart have also vowed to help.

It came after a week-long social media blackout where she removed all her previous posts declaring that the old Taylor is "dead".

But it's a short clip from a preview Taylor tweeted that's caused controversy.

At around 12 seconds in, the artist "formerly known as old Taylor", is seen in military attire standing in formation.
