But countries where temperatures are usually higher have adapted their infrastructure and lifestyle to cope with the heat.

World leaders urged not to COP out of climate action in Madrid

Political leaders, diplomats and negotiators are meeting for two weeks of talks amid a growing sense of urgency.

It began with the bang of a gavel in a cavernous hall on the outskirts of Madrid.

The latest round of UN climate talks. More than 25,000 people, more than 50 heads of state.

Madrid score 6,000th Liga goal

Spanish champions Madrid became the first side to score 6,000 LaLiga goals as they overturned a 2-1 half-time deficit in Andalusia.

Asensio opened the scoring in the 11th minute before Aissa Mandi's strike and a Nacho own goal saw the visitors fall behind.

Sergio Ramos equalised for Madrid and Asensio then notched his second and Madrid's third to bring up the milestone.

Madrid transport authority says no to 'el manspreading'

Explaining that 'el manspreading' is an English term that refers to the posture of men who open their legs too wide and take up space in the next seats, the urban transit company, EMT, has put up signs in public buses.

"This new information icon is similar to what already exists in other transport systems worldwide to prohibit people adopting a body posture that bothers other people", the company said.

Four major cities move to ban diesel vehicles by 2025

The mayors of Paris, Mexico City, Madrid and Athens say they are implementing the ban to improve air quality.

They say they will give incentives for alternative vehicle use and promote walking and cycling.

The commitments were made in Mexico at a biennial meeting of city leaders.
