Vanuatu’s Malapoa College terminates teacher

The Daily Post says news of the pregnancy only reached the school administration this year but the woman became pregnant last year.

The chairman of the College, Fred Samuel, said the board has a zero tolerance policy on sexual relations between staff and students.

Malapoa College was built by the British Administration and called British Secondary School during the colonial era, to educate the children of the British public servants.

In the 43 years since Independence, the school has also taught a number of Vanuatu's prime ministers.

Vanuatu school delivers mass suspensions for drinking

The school's principal, Shem Simon, told Buzz FM the incident took place on Saturday and reflected poorly on the college, with photos of the inebriated students flooding social media.

However, he underlined his main concern was the safety of the pupils.

Mr Simon said a number of them were repeat offenders who had just returned from suspension.

The principal said incidents like this were likely because of negative situations many students faced at home, where he said education started.

China provided $US10.6 million dollars for the project which has doubled the size of the school.

The school was known as the British Secondary School before independence in 1980.

Schools close in honor of late Natapei

Students of Malapoa College attended the State Funeral and the funeral service at Paton Memorial Church (PMC).

Some students from Child Care stood along the sidewalk at PMC with a banner which read, “THANK YOU FOR YOUR LEGACY”.

Although it (Friday) was not declared a public holiday, many people dedicated their working hours to pay their last respect and tribute to late Natapei.

Late Natapei was the longest serving Member of Parliament.

He was described by everyone who knew him as a “humble leader”.
