Vanuatu's election commissioner dies

He died early Tuesday.

Mr Tete died as counting for last week's election was about to begin.

Vanuatu Daily Post's Dan McGarry described the death as "an incalculable loss" for Vanuatu.

     

Martin Tete is new chairman of Vanuatu Electoral Commission

The change was made after a new Electoral Commission was appointed last month.

Mr Tete brings with him a wealth of experience in election matters after having served for many years as Principal Electoral Officer, then as the adviser to the Electoral Commission before joining the Electoral Commission as a member.

His appointments was made by the President of the Republic, Baldwin Lonsdale, acting in accordance with the advice of the Judicial Service Commission.
