The U.S. Embassy in Port Moresby confirmed this, stating that the hyperbaric decompression chamber located in Port Moresby is currently closed and disabled, with no timeline for when it will be reactivated.

PNG school dispute turns to riot, three houses burned

The school's deputy principal, Sabani Amjuye, said a candidate stepped down because insulting comments were written on his poster.

His supporters then started a riot, which involved bows and arrows, sticks, stones and knives, that lasted an entire day.

Mr Amjuye said school facilities were damaged, and three staff houses were razed - a fire in the boys' dormitory managed to be put out.

He said the decision was made to suspend classes indefinitely because of lingering tension.

O’Neill re-elected PM of Papua New Guinea

After his People's National Congress emerged as the party with the most MPs from PNG's lengthy national election, Mr O'Neill has gained enough support in the parliament to begin a second five year term in the position.

The Ialibu-Pangia MP-elect was nominated by Abau MP Puka Temu, before Mt Hagen MP William Duma seconded the motion and Tari MP James Marape closed the nomination.

Polling in Papua New Guinea’s NCD deferred

The announcement was made this morning amidst confusion at polling centres.

Loop PNG reports all electorates in the NCD will now vote on Friday.

Polling officials raised concerns that their allowances were not paid last night.

There is also confusion in the electoral roll as most eligible voters cannot find their names on the roll.

Some candidates are also not able to find their names on the electoral roll.

The Electoral Commission apologised for the deferment saying this had to do with issues related to camping allowances for officials.
