Seven charged over armed heist on Paris filming set

Around twenty hooded thieves attacked the film crew by launching fireworks at them, a Netflix spokesperson said.

They stole more than €300,000 (£250,000; $330,000) worth of equipment during the heist, in broad daylight.

None of the cast or crew who were on set - reported to include the show's star Omar Sy - were injured.

The crew were attacked while they were filming in the Nanterre district, west of central Paris, forcing production to briefly pause.

Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said more than 300 tickets had been handed out and 54 people arrested.

Despite those efforts, some vehicles managed to arrive at the Arc de Triomphe in the city, and tear gas was fired at demonstrators on the nearby Champs-Élysées avenue.

Police sought to push back demonstrators near the capital's Gare Saint-Lazare railway station after protesters had knocked over a police motorbike ridden by two officers, television pictures showed.

Images showed a heavy police presence on the capital's streets. Scuffles between police and demonstrators also broke out on the Champs-Elysees thoroughfare, where teargas was fired and traffic was halted, the pictures showed.

Paris lockdown as France fears 'third wave'

Another 15 regions in the country will also be placed under the same measures from midnight on Friday.

These measures will not be as strict as the previous lockdown, Prime Minister Jean Castex said, with people allowed to exercise outdoors.

France has recorded 35,000 new cases within the past 24 hours.

Mr Castex said a "third wave" of infections in the country was looking increasingly likely.

It comes after the city of Marseille closed bars and restaurants last week.

The maximum alert level in France comes into force when the infection rate in a locality exceeds 250 per 100,000 people and at least 30% of intensive care beds are reserved for Covid-19 patients.

Ardern said Goebel's plans were "spectacular" and would do the country proud. Her programme was made to reflect themes of caring for people and the environment, with a focus on youth and sustainability.

Notre-Dame fire: Cathedral saved within crucial half hour

Laurent Nuñez praised the "courage and determination" of firefighters who "risked their own lives" to salvage the building's stone structure and its two towers.

The fire ravaged the cathedral's roof and caused its spire to collapse.

French President Emmanuel Macron has vowed to rebuild it within five years.

The cause of the blaze is unclear.

"We now know it all came down to 15-30 minutes," Mr Nuñez said, adding that police and fire services would spend the next 48 hours assessing the security and safety of the structure.

The cause is not yet clear, but officials say that it could be linked to renovation work.

A Paris fire official said the main structure had now been "saved and preserved".

Loud bangs could be heard as flames burst through the cathedral's roof, also destroying its stained-glass windows.

Chris Brown released in Paris rape inquiry

An investigation into the alleged incident is continuing, the Paris prosecutor's office said.

The star and two other men were arrested on Monday after a 24-year-old woman alleged she was assaulted in a hotel in the city earlier this month.

After his release, Brown took to social media to deny any wrongdoing.

"I want to make it perfectly clear, this is false," he wrote on Instagram, alongside a picture that said: "This bitch lyin'."
