Scott Barrett

Scott Barrett free to play All Blacks World Cup opener

Barrett was sent off after being shown a second yellow card for a dangerous clean out on Springbok hooker Malcolm Marx in the first half of New Zealand's record 35-7 defeat at Twickenham.

He had only just returned to the field after being sent to the sin bin for a foul at the breakdown, when New Zealand were on a team warning for repeated infringements.

The independent Disciplinary Committee was chaired by Sir James Dingemans (England), joined by former international player Olly Kohn (Wales) and former referee Valeriu Toma (Romania).

Scott Barrett and Sam Whitelock set to return for Crusaders

All Blacks Barrett and Whitelock have both been named to return this week, and will pack down alongside each other in the second row.

Barrett will captain the side in his first Super Rugby Pacific appearance since the win over the Reds in Brisbane last month, while Whitelock returns to competitive rugby following a lengthy stint on the sidelines.

Whitelock injured his hand during the thrilling 34-28 win over the Blues at Eden Park in round three, but has been included as one of seven changes to the starting XV.

Scott Barrett ruled out of Super Rugby Aotearoa

The Crusaders captain was ruled out of the remainder of the competition on Wednesday with a foot injury.

Barrett suffered the injury to the structures supporting his big toe while playing in the team's inter-squad match on June 13, forcing him to miss their competition opener last weekend against the Hurricanes.

After consultation with a foot specialist, it was decided Barrett would undergo surgery, with exact return to play dates uncertain at this stage.

All Black Barrett could miss rest of Super Rugby Aotearoa

Robertson hinted that captain and lock Scott Barrett may not play in Super Rugby Aotearoa.

Barrett missed his team’s opening match in Wellington because of a foot injury. Robertson on Friday said the 26-year-old All Black damaged the plantar fascia tendon.

“It is with a specialist currently, and they are going to make a call once they have re-scanned his [Barrett’s] foot this week,” Robertson told stuff.co.nz.

“We should have a definitive decision on Friday, if he is going to be here for Super Rugby Aotearoa.”

Scott Barrett set for a start in World Cup semi-final

Barrett's extra size would be key to counter the size and strenght of the England pack.

RNZ understands that Barrett will take the number six jersey, with Ardie Savea moving to the openside and Sam Cane dropping to the bench.

Scott Barrett came on at half time of the All Black's quarter-final win over Ireland and Sam Cane left the field at the same time.

Cane would replace the injured Matt Todd on the bench, while Patrick Tuipolotu is set to come into the reserves as lock cover.

Scott Barrett suspended for three weeks

Barrett was sent off in the 39th minute for the incident - Australia went on to win the 47-26.

At the SANZAAR review committee, Barrett pleaded guilty to Law 9.16: A player must not charge or knock down an opponent carrying the ball without attempting to grasp the player.

In his finding, Foul Play Review Committee Chairman Adam Casselden SC ruled the following:

Barrett still waiting on judiciary, could miss start of World Cup

Barrett was sent off for a dangerous tackle near the end of the first half of the All Blacks 47-26 loss to the Wallabies in the opening Bledisloe Cup clash in Perth.

He'll likely be ruled him out this weekend's Bledisloe Cup decider in Auckland, but he could be slapped with a four week ban, which would rule him out of this week's second Bledisloe test in Auckland, the All Blacks one-off test against Tonga and their first two World Cup pool games.

The SANZAAR foul play committee adjourned last night's hearing pending further evidence.

All Black lock Scott Barrett facing possible ban that puts doubt over his World Cup campaign

The SANZAAR foul play review committee will convene late Sunday afternoon (5pm AEST) by video conference to consider Barrett’s case.

Barrett was sent off just before halftime in a key moment of the Wallabies’ upset 47-26 victory in the series opener at Perth’s Optus Stadium on Saturday night.

He was red-carded by French referee Jerome Garces for an apparent shoulder charge which struck Wallabies skipper Michael Hooper in the back and neck as the All Blacks were desperately defending their line.

Scott Barrett red carded as All Blacks get thrashed by Wallabies in Perth

Forget the fact, for a moment, that the 47-26 thrashing at Optus Stadium on Saturday night means the All Blacks must win in Auckland next week to retain the Bledisloe Cup.

Lock Barrett, who was sent off for ramming his shoulder into the neck of Wallabies captain Michael Hooper in the 40th minute, has ensured the All Blacks will be under the microscope ahead of, and during, the global tournament in Japan.

It's hard enough to defend the Webb Ellis Cup without distractions, and Barrett's moment of madness will do his countrymen no favours ahead of the event in the Far East.

Crusaders and All Blacks lose Crotty and Barrett

And the All Blacks duo are also in line to miss the Rugby Championship that follows.

Crotty fractured his thumb in the semi-final win over the Hurricanes and had surgery on Sunday to stabilize it.

He will be sidelined for up to eight weeks.

Barrett will miss the next five to six weeks after fracturing the second metacarpal at the base of his index finger.

The Crusaders have ready-made replacements in the midfield and at lock.
