Bill Cosby: Nine women sue former comedian in Nevada over sexual abuse

The women say the former actor and comedian drugged and assaulted them in homes, dressing rooms and hotels in Nevada between 1979 and 92.

The state has recently scrapped its time limit for filing such claims.

Mr Cosby's spokesman said they were motivated by an "addiction to massive amounts of media attention and greed".

It is the latest in a string of civil and criminal cases against the 85-year-old former star, who enjoyed huge fame in the 1980s and 90s thanks to his sitcom The Cosby Show.

Jarryd Hayne sentenced to four years, nine months jail for sexual assault

ABC reports the former professional footballer will be eligible for parole in just under two years.

Judge Graham Turnbull told Sydney's Downing Court Hayne's offending was "below mid-range" and he had a "seemingly low risk of reoffending".

Hayne has faced three trials over the assault, with the first ending in a hung jury and the guilty verdict of the second quashed.

Today's sentence was lighter than his previous sentence of five years and nine months.

The 35-year-old, who also had a brief stint in the National Football League (NFL) with the San Francisco 49ers, had pleaded not guilty to both assault charges at the New South Wales District Court.

Reuters reports Hayne, whose bail was continued, will be sentenced at a later date.

In 2021, Hayne was sentenced to five years and nine months in jail on the same charges but that conviction was overturned by the New South Wales Court of Criminal Appeal last year and a new trial ordered.

The first trial ended in a hung jury in 2020.

The 55-year-old R&B singer will spend at least 10 years in prison, with the maximum possible sentence being life.

Prosecutors have said he should spend at least 25 years behind bars.

The singer - known for the hit songs I Believe I Can Fly and Ignition (Remix) - was found to have been the ringleader of a violent and coercive scheme to lure women and children for him to sexually abuse.

The charges include forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, sexual battery by restraint, and sexual penetration by use of force.

Bill Cosby to be freed from prison after court throws out sexual assault conviction

The decision by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court came after Cosby had served more than two years of a potential three- to 10-year sentence in a state prison following his 2018 conviction.

The 83-year-old comedian and actor was best known for his role as the lovable husband and father in the 1980s television comedy series The Cosby Show, earning him the nickname "America's Dad."

But his family-friendly reputation was shattered after dozens of women accused him of sexual assault over a period of decades.

Jarryd Hayne jailed for five years nine months for sexual assault

A jury in March found Hayne guilty of two counts of aggravated sexual assault which the victim said left her feeling "dirty, scared and ashamed".

Hayne must serve a minimum of three years and eight months.

In handing down her sentence, District Court Judge Helen Syme said she found that Hayne was fully aware that the victim was not consenting and went ahead anyway.

"The reliability and honesty of the victim's evidence was tested at length and in my view, her reliability was not in doubt. She said no several times," Judge Syme said.

DeGeneres said the abuse took place when she was 15 or 16, after her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer.

"He told me... he'd felt a lump in her breast and needed to feel my breasts," she told interviewer David Letterman.

DeGeneres first spoke about the abuse in 2005, but said she was now going into more detail "because I want other girls to not ever let someone do that".
