Successful Games to derive from volunteers’ input

Having volunteers being part of the workforce is vital for the delivery of services during the Games.

This week, Van2017 Volunteer Team has begun its Team Leaders Orientation program with its 70 chosen Team Leaders, who will be working ‘hands on’ to direct and motivate their volunteers.

Van2017 CEO Clint Flood says the Volunteer Team Leader is an integral part in the success of a team project, and his or her role is to help streamline communication and provide structure and direction in fulfilling expectations for volunteers. 

Confidence and certainty prove that Vanuatu is ready to host the Games

CDM Fiji Wayne O’Connor said it was most beneficial to have face to face updates done by Van2017 presenters.

“Each one of them spoke with great confidence and certainty about the Games being on,” he said.

“It is wonderful to see the banners all about Igniting the Spirit, because it is exactly what is all about - igniting the spirit within from each person who will be participating, but also to encourage Team Leaders who will bring their teams over to Vanuatu.

Van2017 promotes its clean-up campaign

 

The campaign will focus on encouraging people not to litter, proper disposal of rubbish in rubbish bins, utilizing the PVMC yellow plastic bags, saying no to plastic bags, encouraging reusable bags, and recycling. 

As part of the drive, the Van2017 Mascot team along with the Port Vila Municipality will go out into different Port Vila wards and promote the message by actively cleaning and talking to communities about their importance.  

12th Sponsor added for 10th Pacific Mini Games

The leading retail and wholesale supermarket chain in Vanuatu, Au Bon Marche is the 10th Gold sponsor of the Mini Games, also as the licensed ticketing distributor.

ABM will retail tickets in its outlets across Port Vila.  35,000 Pacific Mini Games tickets will be available from Au Bon Marche starting the first week of September. As the licensed distributor of Games Ticket in Vanuatu, ABM will provide customers with a secure means to buy tickets for the Games, through its seven (7) outlets in Port Vila, of which are:

Van2017 appoints new member of its staff: Jessica Carlot

Jessica’s role is to assist the Sports Competition Managers (SCMs) and National Federations under the direction of the Van2017 Sports Delivery Supervisor Lilon Bongmatur and Van2017 Sports Manager William Worwor in creating sports delivery plans.

Her role also includes collecting information from SCMs for their volunteers and following up with sports training sessions run by the technical delegates from various sports, as well as collecting data needed for the preparation for the games schedules  and plans.

2017 Pacific Mini Games Team Vanuatu fundraising Auction

Vanuatu 2017 and VASANOC (Vanuatu Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee), with the generous assistance of the Carbine Club of Vanuatu, this Friday will be auctioning the 2000 Olympic Games Torch signed by Olympic Gold Medallists Cathy Freeman of Australia in Athletics and Barbra Kendall of New Zealand in Sailing.

The Carbine Club has been operating in other countries for 50 years. It was first founded as a men’s luncheon club in Melbourne in 1961 and is named after the legendary racehorse, Carbine.

Van2017 seeks 2,000 volunteers for Pacific Mini Games

The number of volunteers has been confirmed by Government Services representative and Team Villages Manager, Wilfred Koran.

About 3000 forms have been distributed but only 532 was filled and dropped in at the designated drop box at Digicel, Air Vanuatu, Public Service Commission, Vasanoc and Van2017 office.

Mr Koran said they have launched 3,000 forms but they need 2,000 volunteers to assist the athletes, VIPs and the public during the Games.

“We need everyone, who is interested to fill in the forms and drop them at the designated drop box locations,” he said.

Nasi heads from Tafea Province back to nature

As part of the 2017 Pacific Mini Games awareness campaign to Government Ministries, Nasi visited the many different sites under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry, Fisheries and Bio security (MALFFB) in Port Vila.

Van2017 signs MOU with Ministry of Internal Affairs

“The Pacific Mini Games will be taking place here in Port Vila, and as you know this capital city is governed by Port Vila Municipality which is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. And it is a privilege for this city, which will be the face of this country. In fact, Port Vila is welcoming people from all over the world, Port Vila is hosting them, and Port Vila is farewelling them as well.

Van2017 calls upon Government officials for supportive collaboration

In a consultation meeting on Wednesday 12th July 2017 at the National Convention Centre in Port Vila, Van2017 CEO Clint Flood gave his opening remark by stating that the Pacific Mini Games is nearly at our doorstep, with 144 days to go.

Mr Flood pointed out that the Vanuatu Government has made its commitment financially and Van2017 has commitments operationally to deliver for this Games.
