Vanuatu teachers on notice over payday absences

The director of Education Services, Roy Obed, has issued a warning to principals and teachers saying the ministry was not happy that teachers are depriving students by closing the schools to go to town to do their banking and shopping.

He said an academic calendar was approved for each year and when school principals and teachers closed schools on pay days it was a direct breach of the Teaching Service Act.

Mr Obed said students could be deprived of 20 learning days each year.
