Bats of Vanuatu exhibition in Port Vila

The one-week exhibition started Monday, 8 April and will end on Saturday, 13 April 2019.

The exhibition is part of the project called ‘Conservation of the Endemic Flying Foxes of Torba and Temotu in Vanuatu and Solomon islands.

The project focuses on three species of threatened flying foxes, Banks flying fox in Vanuatu, Temotu flying fox and Vanikoro flying fox in Solomon Islands.

The VESS has confirmed that part of the project is an expedition to the islands where these species of threatened flying foxes occurred.

Cloud Kava Company to provide about 17,000 kava seedlings to Vanuatu agriculture department

One of the components of the agreement is the delivery of kava seedlings for farmers.

The signing agreement is part of the ministry’ s policy directives through the office of the Minister and Director General, to continue to strengthen the participation of private sector within agriculture sector through long and short term contracts.

13 thousand households in Vanuatu benefit from CT Program

According to Sandra Hart from Oxfam, "Of the total target evacuee families and host families residing in Santo, the program benefited 90% of the evacuees and 10% of the host families.
Vanuatu is the first country in the Pacific to roll out an Unconditional Cash Transfer Programme.

The programme has provided flexible financial assistance to Ambae evacuees.

Although there is plenty of international evidence supporting cash transfer programme globally, the approach has not been widely used in Pacific Islands countries before.

Vanuatu’s capital municipal council seeks assistance in waste management

Sakita paid a courtesy call on the JICA Resident Representative Naoki Takechi to see how the organisation could help the municipal council.

He had informed Lord Mayor Albert Daniel, Port Vila councilors and PVMC staff that it is his "vision to take the council to another step."

"I have discovered during my short time with the Council that waste management need to be established on its own while the JICA funded heavy machines in the dump site could not be fixed by our mechanics," Sakita told Takechi during the visit.

MALFFB signs contract with Vanuatu Agriculture Supplies

The contract was signed by the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry, Fisheries and Biosecurity (MALFFB), Hosea Nevu and Aaron Prendergast of VAS.

The signing of the contract follows a Government tender process for VAS to supply three tractors to the Ministry of Agriculture.

The main objective of the agreement is part of a continuity of mechanization policy of MALFFB through the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to support and assist local farmers to increase production of food and cash crop at their farm level.

Vanuatu’s Emae farmers prepare for mini-agriculture show

The Chairman of Emae Farmers’ Association, Kalo Daniel Maraki said he is proud to confirm the event.

“Emae farmers were able to present an exceptional result at the National Agriculture show in Santo last year and I am proud that Emae will be hosting this mini-agriculture show. This is an opportunity for farmers to exhibit their best products and I am expecting a higher level of output,” said Mr Maraki.

“Most products will be yams, vegetables and other agricultural products and livestock animals as well.”

Vanuatu Government denounces EU list of non-cooperative tax jurisdictions

Prime Minister of Vanuatu, Charlot Salwai Tabimasmas, and Gaetan Pikioune, Minister responsible for Finance and Economic Management, have acknowledged the assessments done by the EU, the processes in which the assessments were carried out were not clearly communicated to the National Government who is working tirelessly and jointly with the OECD Secretariat to address the OECD requirements.

School fees covered for Vanuatu disaster victims

The council has approved the exemption, worth just over $US1 million, for students from Ambae, following the Manaro Voui eruption.

Students from southeast Ambrym affected by earthquakes are also exempt from paying fees.

Former French ambassador to Vanuatu to face accusers

According to French radio, this has been arranged to happen at the French High Commission in Noumea.

Mr Judes was recalled to Paris in February after a senior New Caledonian businesswoman Cherifa Linossier made the first allegation.

The foreign ministry sacked him last month but he rejects the allegations, saying there may be a plot against him.

Cherifa Linossier said seven other women reported to her that they were also harassed by him.

 

     

Vanuatu Tennis signs agreement with Education Ministry

The agreement allows the VAS Development Officers to visit 10 kindergarten and primary schools around Port Vila.

Vanuatu Tennis will be able to run programmes like the Australian Open Pathway (AOP) and the Pacific Sports Partnership (PSP) in the schools.

Vanuatu Tennis says implementing the programme in primary schools is part of the development of tennis in Vanuatu.
