8th Heads of Mission meeting held in Port Vila

Vanuatu diplomats working in missions abroad will meet for the 8th Heads of Mission Meeting (HOM) from 1st to 3rd July, 2019 at the convention center in Port Vila.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and External stated that the meeting is an annual event that will bring all ambassadors, high commissioners and consul-general to discuss foreign and development policy objectives of the country. These discussions will involve ministries and key relevant Government line agencies. Ambassadors will report on their achievements for the year 2018 and the Government will provide new directions for the second half of 2019 and 2020.

This year’s theme is ‘Expanding opportunities for our children through a responsible and representative Foreign Service’

The Vanuatu Government currently has 7 embassies/high commissioners and 2 consul-general offices, respectively in Suva (Fiji), Canberra (Australia), Wellington (New Zealand), New York (USA), Brussels (Belgium), Geneva (Switzerland), Beijing, Shanghai, Hongkong (China) and Noumea (New Caledonia).

The meeting will allow the Foreign Ministry to consolidate views across its diplomatic network, identify new challenges and opportunities and deliberation on how it can effectively deliver on its corporate objectives.

The Ministry of foreign Affairs said this year’s event will also features call on the Head of State H.E. Pastor Moses Tallis on Thursday 4th July 2019 including for the first time High Schools outreach program to Eaputo SDA school, Lycee de Montmarte, Lycee de Antoine de Bougainville, Onesua Presbyterian College, Malapoa College, Central school and Tebakor College.
