Eight jailed over killing in Vanuatu

In Vanuatu, eight men from Tanna, including their chief, have been jailed for murder after carrying out a chiefly order to kill a man.

The man was killed in Middle Bush Village over a dispute about corrugated iron roofing sheets donated after Cyclone Pam in 2015.

The Daily Post reports the chief has been jailed for four years while the other men received jail sentences from four to 14 years.

Chief Justice Vincent Lunabek ruled against any suspended jail sentences saying the nature of their crime was very serious.
