Jimmy Nipo unofficial winner in Tanna by-election

Unofficial results from the Tanna constituency by-election show Jimmy Nipo from the Leaders Party Vanuatu (LPV) has won the seat left vacant by former MP Joe Natuman.

Reports from Tanna island confirmed that there was poor turnout in some polling stations.

Unofficial results after the counting yesterday evening indicated that VLP candidate Nipo got 3877 votes out of all 36 polling station in Tanna.

Vanua’aku party candidate, Harry Iati, finished second with 2980 votes.

Ten candidates contested the by-election on Tanna.

The seat was left vacant after former MP Joe Natuman lost his appeal case against the Speaker of Parliament to continue as an MP after he was found guild of attempting to pervert the course of justice and given a suspended two-year sentence.

Mr Natuman was the leader of the Vanua’aku Party.
