Mass eviction on Vanuatu's Tanna Island

In Vanuatu 13 houses have been burned down and 50 men and their families have been forced to move in a mass eviction on Tanna Island.

Police confirm to the Daily Post newspaper that they carried out a court order to evict the people.

Police said the eviction went without incident and that all the victims had moved on to live temporarily with relatives until they find somewhere permanent.

The paper said the Tafea Provincial Government is providing them with humanitarian assistance.
