Money allocated to fix up dire roads in Vanuatu

The Vanuatu government has allocated three billion vatu ($US26 million) to build feeder roads around the country.

Farmers have been calling for better roads for the past decade so they can get their produce to market.

The Vanuatu Daily Post reported the money will also fund fixing up a one-hundred metre wide knee deep muddy pool which has diverted vehicles from an access road called "Seven Star".

RNZ Pacific's correspondent reports it has become a joke since a local resident introduced a boat several years ago to ferry people across the brown pool for a fee to the next bus stop.

May local residents have welcomed the government announcement saying it is long overdue.
