MSG Secretariat appoints new Deputy Director General, Peter Eafeare

Seasoned diplomat Peter Eafeare of Papua New Guinea has been appointed the new Deputy Director General of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Secretariat.

Mr Eafeare took up his appointment on 27 August 2017.

The new Deputy DG has a vast experience ion regional and international geo-political and development issues that will contribute immensely to the work of the MSG in implementing the mandates of our Leaders.

Mr Eafeare brings to the Secretariat a wealth of experience having had held senior positions within the region including being the Director General of the International Relations Unit, Department of Prime Minister & National Executive Council 2000 to 24th January 2003 and Papua New Guinea’s High Commissioner to the Republic of the Fiji Islands and Kiribati from 2005 until 2014.

In his new role, Mr Eafeare will be assisting the Director General (DG) in the implementation of the Work program and Activities of the MSG Secretariat on areas including Governance and Political Affairs, Trade and Investment, Economic Development and Sustainable Development. In particular, he comes in at a very crucial time as MSG is going through reforms and transitional period as mandated by its Governing Body.
