Specialised help for Ambae evacuees with disabilities

For those Ambae evacuees with disabilities, the evacuation has been particularly difficult.

Motivation Australia and its Ni-Vanuatu partners have been working to help get mobility aids to those that need it - so far, they've identified almost three hundred people who need additional support.

Motivation Australia's Vanuatu Project Officer, Claire Ibell says they are now working to provide mobility devices and wheelchairs before the islanders head back home.

Ibell told Pacific Beat that they are trying to work as quickly as possible but in coordination with the clusters especially the gender and protection clusters which are essentially a coordination by the government to ensure all the activities are coordinated in different areas.

She said they are working with them to assist people with mobility devices as quickly as possible and also providing services that are of good quality.

Ibell said it is important to ensure that there is ongoing support to people with disabilities.
