USAID holds Project Preparation training in Vanuatu

US Ambassador Catherine Ebert – Gray launched the first Project Preparation training conducted by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Vanuatu.

The launch was held at the Grand Casino hotel in Port Vila Monday, 25 February 2019.

“Resilient development requires cooperation from all sectors to adapt and strengthen existing infrastructure and social systems so that we are ready to face the challenges ahead. In light of this, the U.S. government is pleased to work with national and local governments, the private sector, and academe to address pressing development needs that not only affect this country, but also this strategically important region as a whole.” said Ambassador Ebert-Gray

The Project Preparation training is designed to further develop the skills of government and non-government stakeholders from Vanuatu in prioritizing areas that align with their climate adaptation plans and goals, designing effective adaptation projects, and improving access to external financial resources that could support them.

Participants of the training include mid-level managers of government departments and non- governmental organizations, as well as representatives from the private sector.

The 5 day course helps leaders strengthen their management skills to design and effectively implement disaster resilience projects.

USAID’s Ready is a five-year project that works in 12 Pacific Island countries: Fiji, Kiribati, Tonga, Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, and Republic of the Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.

Through Ready, USAID works with government partners and other stakeholders to draft and implement policies that will improve partner countries’ access to larger amounts of project funding from international donors in order to mitigate the impacts of natural disasters, and strengthen the skills and systems within each country to better manage and monitor funded projects.
