Vanuatu’s Emae farmers prepare for mini-agriculture show

Farmers on Emae are ready to host a mini-agriculture show from 18 to 21 June.

The Chairman of Emae Farmers’ Association, Kalo Daniel Maraki said he is proud to confirm the event.

“Emae farmers were able to present an exceptional result at the National Agriculture show in Santo last year and I am proud that Emae will be hosting this mini-agriculture show. This is an opportunity for farmers to exhibit their best products and I am expecting a higher level of output,” said Mr Maraki.

“Most products will be yams, vegetables and other agricultural products and livestock animals as well.”

“Emae was declared Organic Island so farmers will showcase only organic products. Cooked food on sale during the mini-agriculture show will only be local foods, local chicken and other livestock meat, no rice, no chicken wings and no canned foods is allowed on stalls,” Mr Maraki said.

He added that handicraft and artefact products will also be exhibited during the mini agriculture show.

“Come with the best products and demonstrate a good show to indicate that agriculture sector on Emae has exceeded to another level, go local, grow local and eat local,” Mr Maraki concluded.

He also encouraged farmers to continue to cultivate their land to increase production.

The Chairman of Emae mini-agriculture show committee, Harry Daniel, acknowledged those who have agreed to be part of the committee.

He said it is essential that the committee members should start working now, on their respective areas like sponsorship, venue, accommodation, transportation, activities and entertainment to make sure the event is carried out successfully.

Mr Daniel added the committee members should also inform their communities on the plans and everyone should start preparing themselves.

“As chairman of the committee, I will call a meeting shortly to hear updates from each members on what they have done so far,” he added.

The main theme for the mini agriculture show is ‘Grow Organic, Eat Local, Think Global’.
