Vanuatu’s Santo holds first ever plumbing and trades training

Sixteen people will over a month learn more about the plumbing trade in the first ever training of its kind to be held in Santo, Vanuatu.

The training is being organised in partnership with the Vanuatu Skills Partnership, Torgil Rural Training Centre (RTC) and Bombua School.

The trainee are from Torgil Rural Training Centre and neighbouring islands who have prior experience in the field, as well as carpenters who are seeking to enhance their plumbing skills.

“Within the one-month course, four core units will be delivered and participants will translate their learning in the classroom, into practical hands-on exercises at Bombua School”.

The students will learn skills and techniques, like pipe cutting and fitting, and how to identify and use different types of plumbing fixtures.

According to the Trainer James Matariki, by the end of the training the participants should be able to complete two toilets, one-bathroom shower and three laundry sinks.

He said the outcome of the training will not only be the skills gained by participants, but also a proper sanitary community facility available for use.
