China's Vice Foreign Minister Zheng Zeguang, who is on a visit to Vanuatu, said the ships will be on their way home after active duty protecting international waters from pirates off the coast of Somalia.
RNZI reports there are to be cultural activities to reflect the strengthening of ties between China and Vanuatu.
In discussions with the acting Prime Minister Ham Lini, Mr Zheng said he was satisfied with the progress Chinese funded development projects in Vanuatu were making.
This includes the Prime Ministers' office complex which will also house the Department of Public Service; the renovations of the National Sports Stadium and new sports facilities being built for the Pacific Mini Games to be held in Port Vila in December.
Mr Zheng said China stood up for Vanuatu's right to become a sovereign state and since then their relationship has gone from strength to strength.
He said more Chinese investors were interested in coming to Vanuatu and he said there were more Chinese development projects on the horizon.
