Vanuatu Electoral Office conducts training for polling staff

The Vanuatu Electoral Office (VEO) has successfully conducted a training for the 29 presiding officers and 116 polling staff.

Polling officials were trained on polling and counting procedures to ensure smooth operations of voting in Efate on Monday

A new manual for polling and counting was developed and printed for polling staff with technical support from the UNDP Vanuatu Electoral Environment Project.

The manual aims to consolidate the electoral practices and present them in a clear way for immediate guidance and use of the polling officers, as well as to ensure coherent and coordinated polling operations.

Joe Johnson Iati, Principal Electoral Officer, inaugurated the training held at Independence Park in the hall of the PMC Church.

Mr. Iati stressed the importance of transparency and efficiency in the polling and counting operations.

32,607 voters will elect a new MP in the electoral constituency of Efate rural, which comprises all Efate rural and off-shore islands, excluding the urban area of the Port Vila municipality.

Seven candidates are contesting the by-election.
