Vanuatu man jailed for attempted murder in church

A Vanuatu man has been jailed for 17 years for attempted murder after he tried to kill his wife with a metal hammer in church in front of a pastor and his congregation.

The Daily Post newspaper names the man as Johnon Namri of Tanna, a former boxer who reportedly accused the pastor of having an affair with his wife.

Namri had acted after the pastor's clothes were allegedly seen by his daughter in his wife's room in the church compound.

In sentencing the man, Vanuatu's Chief Justice Vincent Lunabek said it was clear the accused planned to kill his wife for her alleged infidelity.
