Vanuatu NDMO gives all clear for Cyclone Oma

The Vanuatu National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) has advised the all clear for Sanma and Malampa Provinces as Cyclone Oma continues to move southwest.

The NDMO confirmed that the National Emergency Operational Centre (NEOC) remains operational, as well as the Provincial Emergency Operation Centre (EOC)’s at Torba, Sanma and Malampa province.

“Plans are in place to conduct aerial surveillance of damaged areas on Wednesday 20 February. Assessment teams have been formed in Torba and Sanma provinces to commence damage assessments,” a statement said.

Logistical plans are in place to provide relief supplies when the rough seas subside.

More than 11,000 people live in areas that were exposed to wind speeds above 90 km/hrs.

The NDMO said it has been in contact with affected provinces and Provincial Emergency Operations Centres remain active in Sanma, Torba and Malampa provinces.

All PEOC’s are working on collecting preliminary impact information

Meanwhile NDMO through the Emergency Telecommunication Cluster is continuously sending out warning messages of TC Oma via text messages.
