The Telecommunications, Radiocommunications and Broadcasting Regulator (TRBR) Vanuatu announces the Type Approval and Conformity to Technical Standards Regulation No. 191 of 2018.
In accordance with Section 7 (4)(f) of the Telecommunications Radiocommunications and Broadcasting Regulation Act 30 of 2009 as amended by Amendment 22 of 2018 (the Act) which states that:
“7. General functions and powers (4) Without limiting the generality of subsection (3), the Regulator may make regulations: (f) imposing restrictions or limitations upon the importation, sale or use of any equipment used or likely to be used in connection with radiocommunications or telecommunications or broadcasting.
TRBR stated that after consultation with stakeholders, the regulation is issued.
“This is done to ensure that any device that is being imported into the country are safe and have been certified by internationally recognized certification bodies as per Schedule 2 of the Regulation”.
TRBR confirmed that the Type Approval and Conformity to Technical Standards Regulation has now been published in the Official Gazette and will be enforceable this year 2019
TRBR stated that all wholesale shops, retail shops and business that are involved in the sale of radiocommunications, telecommunications and broadcasting equipment need to understand that there are legal requirements in place and will have to comply.
