Consul asks parents not to worry about children’s safety

Vanuatu Honourary Consul to Turkey, Mehmet Atar wishes to assure Ni Vanuatu parents whose children are already studying in Turkey or intend to apply for Turkish Scholarships to study in Turkey, not to worry about the safety of their children.

This is as a result of the civil war in Syria and possible terrorist attack on Turkish soil.

He points out that Turkey shares a common border with Syria and since the start of the uprising in 2011, 2,500,000 Syrians have crossed the border to seek safety in his country.

On the other hand he says terrorist attacks can take place in any country including England and France. “As far as I know, terrorism is a global problem”, he says.

Meanwhile, Turkey has been providing scholarships for 50,000 students from round the world to further their studies in Turkey. “As far as I know, there were no serious problems with any of the students”, he says.

The Honourary Consul has called on ni Vanuatu students and professionals to consider applying to further their studies in the Muslim country.

The first requirement is for all students to study Turkish for one year then sit an examination in Turkish and pass it in order to take their courses the following year.

All three ni Vanuatu students namely Brian Tete, Maureen Paul and Jessie Dick have passed the Turkish language examination.
