Foundation calls for public to identify Men of Honour

There are ordinary men in our societies that are doing extraordinary things for the good of communities and humanity as a whole.

Digicel Foundation CEO Beatrice Mahuru is reminding the public to identify these men and bring their stories to the fore by nominating them for the Digicel Men of Honour Award.

Her reminder comes following the announcement of inaugural Men of Honour award winner Jimmy Drekore, founder of Simbu Children Foundation, winning the 2016 World of Children Health Award.

“Key thing to say here is: It’s not an achievements based award, it’s a character based award, so if we can nominate those fine gentlemen out there and bring their stories to the fore,” she said.

“My call today is for our National Government to recognise gentlemen like Jimmy who are doing marvellous work and please, in their journey, support them so that their reach can be wider and further.”

She also added that the concept of Digicel Foundation and particularly, the MoH, is going international to different Digicel markets, the recent being Antigo, Wisconsin, United States.

“So I’m pleased to say that it’s going international and different markets are picking it up because, through stories of Jimmy Drekore and all the other finalists in the last couple of years, their stories resonate with them as a positive solution to addressing violence in their own communities and for us certainly in PNG,” Mahuru added.

The nominations are open until the end of November.
