New Ambassador to China soon

The appointment of a new Vanuatu Ambassador to China is expected to take place this month.

Director General (DG) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Johnny Koanapo told Daily Post that the post of Vanuatu Ambassador to China has been advertised and the process of appointing a Foreign Service Selection Panel under the Foreign Service Act is in progress.

He said under the provisions of the Foreign Service Act, the Panel will meet shortly to shortlist, interview and nominate a suitable candidate for an appointment to be made this month.

“China is a very important development partner with Vanuatu and therefore it is crucial that an Ambassador of Vanuatu to China is appointed as soon as possible,” he said.

DG Koanapo also confirmed that the Prime Minister is scheduled to visit China next month and therefore, the country must have a new Ambassador appointed to take up the position in Beijing before PM Kilman visits China in September, 2015.

Daily Post understands that former Ambassador to China Sela Molisa was recalled before his term ended after the government changed and MP for Malekula Sato Kilman was elected Prime Minister along with new cabinet ministers from different political party allies.
