New Apple TV supports Bluetooth headphones

We'd already heard how the new Apple TV uses Bluetooth to talk to gamepads and its Siri-powered remote - and it's just been confirmed that it plays nice with wireless headphones and speakers, too.

9to5 Mac has put the set-top box through its paces and discovered several features that Apple neglected to mention when it announced the device on September 9.

Along with support for external audio hardware, the next-generation Apple TV includes a 'night mode' that cranks down the volume of everything but speech.

No more waking the household when you're watching a Michael Bay movie late at night and the explosions start kicking off.

The set-top box will also download and set new screensavers automatically to keep your television screen looking fresh.

The new Apple TV will launch in late October to do battle with Roku and Amazon devices for a place beneath your television set.
